Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs receives standing ovation in class for 5 TD performance

Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs made his first start of the season over the weekend and had a career day, throwing for 301 yards and two touchdowns while also running for 166 yards and three more scores. Dobbs’ effort helped the Volunteers pull out a comeback 45-42 win over South Carolina in overtime.

His classmates certainly noticed his effort and gave Dobbs a standing ovation in class on Monday.

We wrote about Dobbs a few times last year for his demanding class schedule in the aerospace engineering program, as well as his ability to recite the first 28 digits of pi, so he’s impressive in the classroom as well as on the field.

Tennessee head coach Butch Jones planned to redshirt the sophomore this season, but he was forced to put Dobbs in last week against Alabama due to an injury to senior Justin Worley. Dobbs started the Vols’ last four games in 2013, so it wasn’t the first time he saw the field, but Saturday’s performance was certainly the best of his young career.

Dobbs should continue to start for the 4-5 Vols moving forward. Three games remain on the schedule – home games with Kentucky and Missouri and a road game at Missouri.

Can Dobbs lead the Vols to bowl eligibility?
